SAISD Executive Director of Athletics Rodney Chant to be Inducted into the THSADA Hall of Honor

From Friday Night Lights sidelines to courtside at our gyms to poolside and everywhere in between, San Angelo ISD Executive Director of Athletics Rodney Chant is a dedicated leader supporting all SAISD student athletes, University Interscholastic League (UIL) programs and Difference Maker coaching staff, and SAISD proudly celebrates his recent selection to be inducted into the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association (THSADA) Hall of Honor. Announced on December 9, 2022, Coach Chant is one of just four 2023 THSADA Hall of Honor inductees selected for the state-wide honor and the only in West Texas.

“Coach Chant leads our athletic program with integrity, impeccable character, and a commitment toward improving the overall athletic experiences for our student athletes. His ability to build strong relationships across the state in organizations and the UIL gives San Angelo a voice statewide. This connectivity benefits our community and students. We are proud of Rodney’s accomplishments and appreciate his services to our community,” said San Angelo ISD Superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff.

Coach Chant will be formally inducted at the 63rd Hall of Honor Induction Banquet in July 2023  as part of the THSADA annual convention, along with the three other Hall of Honor 2023 inductees: Dr. Susan Elza (Director of Athletics for UIL), David Kuykendall Former Director of athletics (Frisco ISD), Shawn Pratt (McKinney ISD).

Coach Chant was also formerly recognized as the 2020 Athletic Director of the Year by Texas High School Athletic Director Association (THSADA) after joining San Angelo ISD, and the 2016 THSADA Region 5 Athletic Administrator of the Year while serving as Director of Athletics at Pasadena ISD.

Throughout his career in public education and athletics, Coach Chant has developed student athletes and coaches/athletic staff. He has coached from intermediate to the high school level including football, basketball, track, tennis, baseball and powerlifting.

Coach Chant hales from West Texas, and is a graduate of Eden High School. He started his coaching career at Terrell ISD before transitioning to Pasadena ISD, then Fort Bend ISD before joining San Angelo ISD in 2020.

The District congratulates Coach Chant on this prestigious honor, and recognizes his outstanding exemplification of the attributes of the SAISD Educator Profile. Thank you Coach Chant for all you do to positively impact the lives of our students and Difference Maker staff.
