At this time, San Angelo ISD is closely monitoring updates from local health authorities and the Texas Department of State Health Services. Our nursing staff has been educated on what to look for and how to respond if symptoms are identified while at school.
Measles is a serious illness that can lead to complications, especially for young children, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems. We encourage all families to ensure that their children are up-to-date on their vaccinations, including the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine, which is the best protection against the disease. DSHS and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend children receive one dose of MMR at 12 to 15 months of age and another at 4 to 6 years.
We urge families to monitor their children for any signs of illness and to keep students at home if they are showing symptoms of any kind of illness. If parents have any medical concerns, we encourage them to contact their doctor for personalized guidance.
